about
Sometimes I just have to give in to my inner Barry Manilow.
I doubt this song would ever have seen the light of day if I weren't engaged in this process of writing songs and making them available right away.
It's not that I don't like the song. I think it's a decent pop ballad. Someone else might record it very well but it's just a bit too schmaltzy for me. I like songs that are old-fashioned in their approach but this has an uncomfortable proximity to cliche. I tried to turn it around in the middle 8 section by actively disavowing the romanticism of the song but really, it is what it is.
lyrics
I was only seventeen but it feels like yesterday
Seven weeks of summer right before she moved away
Now even after all these years, when I think of her and me
It always feels like electricity
Always thought we’d meet again some day but never did
It broke my heart to let her go but I was just a kid
The winter came and in that darkness I moved on easily
But I never found that electricity
Don’t get me wrong
I’m not the kind of guy for whom this
silly romance stuff appeals
I’m just telling you how it feels
Some old place down by the station, I was walking by
And somewhere in this crowd of faces, one just caught my eye
It was just a glance but in that moment it all came back to me
In a perfect jolt like electricity
Like electricity
Electricity
Electricity
"...an album that looks as much to this side of The Pond as the UK, She Makes War's debut album is a dark melange of 90s Riot Grrrl meets indie-pop meets disquieting ballads, all the time not missing a beat..."
